Sculptures by Hugo Powell: The Sentinel, First Light and Salome

Welcome to the website of sculptor Hugo Powell (1919-2014)

We are pleased to announce that Powell’s sculptures relating to his experience in the Second World War have been donated to prestigious new homes.

The Sentinel will be on permanent display in the Quaker Library at Friends House, Euston Road. The library is home to the Friend’s Ambulance Unit archive, which includes the Hadfield Spears Field Hospital where Powell volunteered during WW2.

First Light and Salome are now part of the collection of the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth. The full collection of Powell’s portfolios documenting his career are in the Henry Moore Institute Archive. Four of his early works are held in the Leeds’ Sculpture Collection.
